ASX-listed pharmaceutical contract development and manufacturing organisation (CDMO) IDT Australia has signed an MoU with oral drug and nutrient delivery business Gelteq, aimed at scaling up production on Gelteq’s products.
According to a statement from IDT on Thursday, the MoU “establishes a framework for Gelteq to set up its base and develop a dedicated facility” at IDT’s GMP manufacturing site, with a final binding agreement anticipated “to be in place in the coming months.”
IDT added that the partnership will position it “at the forefront of an innovative drug delivery platform not currently available in Australia for pharmaceuticals” and establish Gelteq onsite as an integral part of IDT.
CEO Paul McDonald said: “We are excited to combine our proven development and manufacturing capabilities with Gelteq’s innovative delivery system for wellness and therapeutic products.
“Gelteq’s proprietary gel technologies offer distinct benefits in both delivery and combination therapy opportunities needed to improve care and dosing compliance across many end markets.”
Gelteq is listed on the NASDAQ and headquartered in Monash Innovation Labs at Clayton. It describes its patented gel delivery platform as “a chemically and physically stable matrix capable of holding multiple ingredients, including pharmaceuticals, nutraceuticals, and plant-based compounds”.
According to its website the gel is “easier to consume for people who have difficulty swallowing medications, or generally suffer from dysphagia.”
Gelteq CEO Nathan Givoni said, “Partnering with IDT to establish a locally-based, purpose-built manufacturing facility strategically positions Gelteq to accelerate and scale our products for the global nutraceutical, pharmaceutical and animal health markets.”
IDT’s site is at Boronia, east of Melbourne’s CDB. In an unrelated announcement, it recently opened Australia’s first facility accredited to manufacture Antibody Drug Conjugates for treating cancer at the facility.
