Manufacturing News

The much anticipated disappearance of Coon brand cheese is underway, with Saputo Dairy announcing the renamed brand range has begun rolling out across major and independent Australian supermarkets, with more products appearing on shelves nationally over the coming weeks.

Saputo commercial director Cam Bruce said: “We are excited to confirm that shoppers can now purchase Cheer Cheese from the dairy aisle of their local supermarket or independent grocery store nationwide.

“Cheer is the same great cheese that millions of Australians have grown up with and enjoyed for generations, and we look forward to bringing that little bit of happiness to everyone’s day, whether it’s a sliced snack, part of the family dinner or a melty, midnight toastie.”

Saputo, Australia’s largest dairy processor, announced more than a year ago that it was changing the well known name which has negative racist connotations.

At the time Canadian-owned Saputo Inc CEO Lino Saputo said: “Treating people with respect and without discrimination is one of our basic principles.

“Our decision…reinforces this commitment to build a culture of acceptance, inclusion and respect where everyone feels a sense of belonging.”

The Cheer range (pictured) includes slices, block cheese and shredded cheese.

Saputo Dairy Australia produces, markets and distributes a wide range of high quality dairy products for the domestic and international markets including cheese, fluid milk, extended shelf-life milk and cream products, cultured products and dairy ingredients.
