Kanyini satellite up and running

Manufacturing News

The South Australian government satellite Kanyini has been successfully launched to space but is also healthy and thriving, according to Inovor Technologies.

A venture between the state and Inovor, SmartSat CRC, and Myriota, all systems onboard the satellite are nominal, and Kanyini is soaring beyond expectations.

According to Inovor: “The first successful ground station pass was at an elevation of 46 degrees and it was a massive success.

“After the pass, we calculated the utilisation to be greater than 70 percent of the available pass time which is very impressive given the spacecraft is tumbling and still quite close to other cubesats deployed on the same launch.

“Steady communications have been established from launch day, ensuring a command and data handling process that exceeds industry standards.”

Launched on Saturday along with two other Australian satellites Waratah Seed, and Cuava-2, Kanyini is the first State Government-funded satellite.

Inovor said the ground station and UHF radio were working well with the system logging 200,000 points of telemetry so far with 100 percent availability.

“All the telemetry looks positive and none of the subsystems have reported any critical logs since launch.

“The spacecraft temperature is looking pretty stable, and we aren’t concerned about the payloads getting too cold.”

All solar panels have generated power.

“Throughout this week the team will be working on further assessing the subsystems and officially starting the commissioning of Kanyini.”
