Major contract let for Attack submarine

France’s Naval Group has signed a subcontract for the design of the main propulsion equipment of the Attack Class submarines to be built in Adelaide.

The contract is with the French group, Jeumont Electric, with the contract including a number of features to drive technology transfer and local manufacturing involvement.

Jeumont worked on the Collins Class submarines, and will establish an Australian subsidiary to develop local capabilities for the sustainment and maintenance of the new submarines through their service life.

Jeumont Electric Australia will also be the engineering design authority for the contract, and will provide for Australian companies to supply components to be included in the main propulsion system.

Jeumont has a heads of agreement with submarine builder ASC to identify joint business opportunities in the rotating electrical machinery market.

This is the third major subcontract let by Naval Group with MTU designing the diesel generator rectifiers and Schneider Electric France the Main DC switchboards.
