Defence trailer manufacturer reveals new product

Specialty off road vehicle manufacturer Land Force Defence & Mobility has shared on social media ‘some of the exciting products we are developing at the moment’. The company makes a wide range of special purpose trailers, mission modules and remote area support vehicles for defence forces. Design manager Nathan Anderson revealed a new light weight multi-role defence tactical trailer (pictured) based on the company’s successful civilian trailer design. Land Force Defence & Mobility is vertically integrated from needs analysis, 3D CAD design, High Quality renderings, engineering, Mechanical & Structural Drawings, 3D Printing, testing and product manufacturing.

New interim CEO for Bisalloy

Wear and armour steel manufacturer Bisalloy has announced that Michael Gundy will take on the role of interim CEO and managing director when CEO Glenn Cooper leaves the company at the end of December. Gundy is a non-executive director of the Unanderra, NSW company. He has had a long career in the steel industry including leading BlueScope’s coated and rolled products businesses in Indonesia and Thailand. Cooper and Gundy will work together until the end of the year to ensure a smooth transition. An international search for a new CEO is underway.

Universal Biosensors to collaborate with Mayo Clinic

Electrochemical test developer Universal Biosensors has entered into a master collaboration agreement with prestigious oncology research and treatment institutions Mayo Clinic Biopharma Diagnostics. Based in Minnesota, Mayo and Universal will collaborate on multiple projects, including working on UBI’s Tn antigen cancer biosensor. Tn Antigen is linked to the first mutation process of a healthy human cell as it becomes a cancer cell. Universal has developed a biosensor platform technology – a point-of-care electrochemical blood glucose test strip – which is already in use in medical centres and healthcare clinics globally.

Strut develops IoT emissions monitoring device

Geelong integrated IoT solutions company Strut, best known for agriculture monitoring, has revealed its latest prototype, an Emission Reduction Monitoring Instrument (ERMI). Powered by LoRaWAN, ERMI is a low-cost alternative to instruments on the market, a monitoring coastal wetlands and the blue carbon that they sequester by taking direct gas flux measurements of carbon dioxide and methane gas released from sediments. The prototype incorporates a luminous flux sensor, CO2 sensor, methane sensor, temperature, pressure and humidity, soil temperature sensor, and a micro-sd card slot. the device was developed for BlueCarbonLab, a research group based at Deakin University.

Geelong-manufactured Defence componentry to the world

Marand Precision Australia has entered a contract with Rheinmetall Defence Australia to manufacture a Roof Module for the LYNX Infantry Fighting Vehicle (IFV), for export to the US to support TEAM Lynx US testing activities associated with the Optionally Manned Fighting Vehicle (OMFV) program. Under a Teaming Agreement with Rheinmetall also covering the Land 400 Phase 3 program, Marand will produce Roof Module subassemblies and other parts of the vehicle at its Geelong manufacturing facilities. While there are multiple variants of the LYNX vehicle, under the Teaming Agreement Marand supplies all variants for the Land 400 Phase 3 program. The order marks the first contract signed between Marand and Rheinmetall.

Australian carbon fibre industry scoping study released

Composites Australia has published a report examining the carbon composites market, identifying 111 enterprises involved in it across the country: 69 that “make things”, 12 providing R&D, eight in engineering services, seven in education services and six suppliers. It reports a promising future for the global carbon fibre industry (following a slump due to the pandemic), identifies the high-tech sector in Australia primed for growth by government support, looks at areas of potential growth, and notes an “unsettling decline in numbers since 2008” for relevant trade skills that required investment to address.
