Matrix to develop technology for Woodside

Oil and gas focused composites group Matrix Composites & Engineering will provide engineering and technology development services to Woodside Energy Technologies.

Under a just-signed three-year agreement the Perth company will provide technology in advanced materials, composites and advanced manufacturing to the subsidiary of Woodside Petroleum.

Matrix’s services will range from conception to commercialisation and include R&D, design and engineering, prototying and manufacturing.

Matrix’s lead products are composite deep sea buoyancy and drag reduction systems for underwater oil and gas production installations and pipelines (pictured).

However the company has been applying its technology to other areas in response to a pause in investment caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.

Matrix CEO Aaron Begley said the agreement helped shift the company’s revenue streams away from greenfields projects to brownfield operations.

“Matrix is already executing several projects for Woodside.”

Recently Matrix and Echo Marine Group announced a collaboration agreement to pursue specialist naval related opportunities.
