According to an update from the state government on Monday, the funded project will establish a facility for device manufacture and small-batch sterilisation of medical equipment, “supporting the company’s efforts to scale-up for export” and creating “five new direct jobs”.

The funding came through the state government’s Regional Economic Development and Community Investment Program.

“Regional NSW is home to some of Australia’s most talented innovators and I look forward to seeing Medovex use this funding to meet a critical need in equipment sterilisation and also to grow the technical arm of the business,” said Tara Moriarty (pictured), minister for regional NSW, on Monday.

Medovex makes a minimally-invasive device known as DenerveX, which treats chronic back pain caused by facet joint disorders.

“We are excited to have the support of the NSW government to continue developing an innovative back pain solution, for thousands of Australians and many more around the world,” said Medovex CEO, Christopher Athavle.

“Making this product in Australia and NSW is a proud achievement for the whole team as we love our Country and State.”

According to the company’s website, DenerveX treats patients by a “high heat and light tissue scrapping action on the back of the facet joint to disrupt the pain signals and receptors,” with a recovery time of “one to two weeks.”

DenerveX has treated “over 1,500 patients” so far and is available for sale in the UK.

The website also lists Kentville, South Australia as a manufacturing site, with an office at Smithfield in Western Sydney.
