Merry Australian made Christmas 2023

Manufacturing News

Merry Australian Made Christmas to all at our Australian Manufacturing Forum Linkedin group members and readers, partners and clients of @AuManufacturing news.

2023 is coming to a close, and at this time of year it is our tradition to salute Party Werks who are a proud supplier of quality Australian made tinsel.

According to the company: “The Tinsel Werks range of tinsel is made in Geelong (Victoria) and offers a thick, luscious, tinsel option for all your Christmas needs.

“It’s tough tinsel that looks great and lasts.”

Doing well against all sorts of competition could well be the theme of 2023.

While there was some good news and some growth, the promised manufacturing renaissance under a new government has failed to materialise, and looks as remote a prospect as ever.

The new government’s programme, focused around a National Reconstruction Fund and defence and energy industries, looks to be – as is usual – too small a scale to shift the long term dial away from shrinkage for the sector.

We watched with dismay as excellent Australian manufacturers such as electric vehicle charger manufacturer Tritium relocated to bigger markets, and as icons such as carbon fibre road wheel manufacturer Carbon Revolution, were lost to overseas control.

And we watch as our national innovation effort is falling, having fallen continuously since 2012, and as our national economic complexity is that of a barely developing country.

But, yes, green energy industries grow apace, especially in the likely production of green hydrogen, and there are green shoots even in battery storage and solar PV panel manufacture.

And, yes, defence is one area where our SMEs are being included in the global supply chains of the multi-nationals, though the recent Defence Strategic Review has accelerated direct overseas acquisitions also.

Enough of the gloom – here at @AuManufacturing we seek out and celebrate the innovative, the excellent and the audacious and will continue to do so.

In 2024 our highly successful search to identify and celebrate Australia’s 50 Most Innovative Manufacturers campaign is back – we urge you to find out how to enter here.

See you in January with more good news stories, industry leader and AMF member viewpoints, a new Top 50 Most Innovative for 2024, and analysis and insights by our editors.

And how better to celebrate than with Australian tinsel made by Tinsel Werks in Geelong, Victoria (pictured).
