South Australia is set to enhance its role in national defence with a new drone radio communications production line, part of the DEF129 Uncrewed Aerial Systems project.
This development follows the Albanese Government’s commitment to invest over $100 million in bolstering the Australian Defence Force’s (ADF) drone capabilities, including the integration of Australian-made Sypaq Systems CorvoX drones.
Codan Communications, a local firm, has been awarded a $15 million contract to fit its Sentry Mesh 6161 radios into these drones. The facility will add up to 18 skilled jobs, focusing on precision engineering tasks such as video encoding, mesh and algorithms equipment packaging as well as certification processes.
The initiative is positioned to provide the ADF with enhanced communication systems.
Minister for Defence Industry and Capability Delivery, Pat Conroy, emphasized the benefits of this project, stating, “This project will create highly skilled jobs for South Australia and demonstrates the Albanese Government’s commitment to building Australia’s future through a strengthening of Australia’s sovereign manufacturing capabilities.”
“This project is also about providing the Australian Defence Force with the capabilities and equipment it needs to keep Australians safe,” he added.
