The Western Australian government has made a major cabinet reshuffle after being returned at the March 8 election, with former health minister Amber-Jade Sanderson (pictured) overseeing a newly-made manufacturing portfolio.
In a statement on Tuesday, premier Roger Cook said the new portfolios – including manufacturing, health infrastructure, preventative health, and aged care and seniors – would “deliver on [his] vision for the State”.
Sanderson’s official set of responsibilities cover energy and decarbonisation; manufacturing; skills and TAFE; and Pilbara.
She was elected to state parliament in 2013 and has held the seat of Morley since 2017, and was minister of health and mental health prior to the election.
Manufacturing and economic diversification were singled out as delivering the state government’s “vision for a future that’s Made in WA.”
The wording “future that’s made in WA” vision echoes the federal government’s “Future Made In Australia” set of policies.
“The portfolios allocated to my new Cabinet align with that vision, and they align with further changes to the operation of Government that we will announce in the weeks ahead,” said Cook.
“It is a vision that will deliver a strong, diversified economy by training highly skilled workers to make more things here, build more homes and provide the services every Western Australian should have access to, no matter where they live in this great State.”
