The federal government has signed a contract with NIOA for a tenancy at the Commonwealth-owned Benalla munitions factory in Victoria.
According to a statement from defence minister Linda Reynolds, up to 100 jobs would be created following the signing of the 10-year contract, with NIOA a tenant at the site alongside Thales Australia. NIOA makes ammunition and grenades and supplies weapons systems to defence and law enforcement.
Reynolds said it was exploring export opportunities
from Benalla.
NIOA is currently building a $60 million
site at Maryborough, Queensland with joint venture partner Rheinmetall Waffe Munitions. This will produce artillery shells and other products for the ADF and for export through Rheinmetall’s supply chain.
