Nippys – the internet of beverages.

Iconic fruit and milk beverage company Nippys has taken the internet of things (IoT) route to improving operational performance at its Moorook facility in the Riverland.

The company has teamed up with Australian supplier, Ailytic, implementing IoT sensors and smart factory software to monitor and control availability, performance, downtime and efficiency.

Julian Martin, Nippys Riverland operational manager said this was to get the most out of recent major investments in new UHT, milk and juice packaging lines.

“To best leverage that investment….staff and management can now view in real time all the metrics of the operation, on any device with instantaneous feedback and notifications about how the site is performing.”

Martin said Nippys, which markets fresh fruit, juices, brewed drinks and milk products, had been able to improve performance, customer service and quality.

Ailytic is an Adelaide basded company that in 2017 received a federal government commercialisation grant to deliver its artificial intelligence optimisation and predictive analytics platform to manufacturers.

James Balzary, CEO of Ailytic said he had been amazed how accepting the Nippys team had been of such new technologies.

“Manufacturers can purchase, configure and spin up an IoT solution…with very little effort, and a lot of thought has gone into how that capability is embedded and sustained with an intuitive user experience.”

Balzary said the challenge was before Australian manufacturers to prepare for a fast-approaching digital world.

“Three key seismic factors are disrupting how companies deliver products to market – automation, artificial intelligence and optimisation,” he said.

“Manufacturers that are in a competitive environment that fail to recognise these shifts will struggle to compete effectively.”
