What is more mystifying than one sweet treat enjoyed in Adelaide but shunned by consumers in other markets around Australia?
Well, two mystifying Adelaide treats of course.
Such is a new sweet treat launched in the festival city that combines delicacies from two iconic Adelaide manufacturers.
They combine one Balfours Bakery Frog Cake – those little split cream cakes styled like a frog – and one Menz Confectionery FruChoc – those little round chocolates with a dried fruit filling.
Despite best efforts, neither company has been able to get anyone much to buy them outside their home markets where they remain remarkably popular.
The new city specific treat is made up of sponge cake, apricot jam, FruChocs orange fondant, and a FruChoc sitting in the frog’s mouth.
Strategic marketer Kat Dumont was involved in their development and said: “It’s been so exciting to work together and bring this limited-edition Balfours x FruChocs Frog Cake to life, just in time for FruChocs Appreciation Day on the 27th of September.”
Yes, that’s right, there really is a FruChocs Appreciation Day in Adelaide.
As Dumont said: “I can’t wait to see how it’s received by South Aussies and how it flies off the shelves.”
Neither can we.
