Prefab house built in just 10 days

A duplex in Matraville in Sydney’s eastern suburbs has been completed to lock up stage in 10 days using an innovative locally prefabricated construction system.

The prefab system is the fastest panelised house construction system in Australia, according to its developer Panelup Systems, and can speed up home construction by more than 50 per cent.

System developer Sasha Veselinovic, a two-storey house can be built to lock-up from the slab up to the roof in just seven days using the system.

He said: “A family home can be ready for its new owners to move in three to four months ahead of traditional construction methods.

“We use 3D BIM software to model each project and manufacture every house component offsite at our North Wollongong factory, from external and internal walls to prefabricated floor cassettes, steel fabrications, bathroom pods, timber frames and insulated roofing panels.”

Panelup Systems manufactures panels offsite, and has supplied Veselinovic’s home construction company, Unique Style Homes, that builds around 15 prefab homes a year.

The PanelUp Prefab System uses Australian manufactured Bondor SolarSpan roof panels and InsulWall wall panels.

The Matraville homes are spacious two storey duplexes totalling 540m2, each incorporating 4 bedrooms, 2 living areas, 4 bathrooms and 3 outdoor areas.

Bondor NSW State Manager Paul Adams said the Panelup Prefab System is a significant leap forward for residential prefabricated construction and one of the most exciting milestones that the Australian building industry has seen.

He said: “This is important given the current high demand for affordable housing, especially given the need for the rapid rebuild of our recently bush fire ravaged regional communities.”
