Premcar expands its Australian new-car manufacturing

Manufacturing News

Australian new-vehicle engineering and manufacturing firm Premcar today announced the establishment of its newest vehicle assembly plant.

Situated in the Melbourne suburb of Epping, Premcar’s all-new production facility has been established to accommodate growing new-vehicle production demand from global automakers and official new-car importers.

This latest new-vehicle production facility will operate alongside Premcar’s current Engineering and Production Centre, also located in Epping, and doubles the available space for Premcar’s vehicle manufacturing and assembly operations.

Its establishment is expected to result in more than 100 new local jobs.

Two new-vehicle assembly programs that will occupy Premcar’s new production site are the award-winning Nissan Navara Warrior dual-cab 4×4 range and the forthcoming Nissan Patrol Warrior model series. Both of these model ranges are engineered and developed in Australia by Premcar to suit Australia’s unique driving conditions. Both also undergo secondary manufacturing by Premcar in Australia.

“This is a rewarding announcement,” said Bernie Quinn, Premcar’s Engineering Director.

“Our current Engineering and Production facility has produced more than 5000 new vehicles and adding this new production centre is set to grow this much further. Most of all, it will create many new Australian manufacturing jobs, which is especially important for the local automotive industry.”

Premcar’s current Engineering and Production Centre commenced operations in July 2019.

The automaker’s all-new facility increases its Australian new-vehicle manufacturing footprint to more than 13,000 square metres.

Bernie Quinn: “By several measures, Premcar is larger than when it was developing and producing the Ford Performance Vehicles (FPV) range in Australia. It’s another great sign Australia’s car-making know-how is thriving.”

Premcar’s history of new-vehicle engineering, manufacturing and assembly in Australia is extensive. Starting in 1996, the company was previously responsible for Ford Australia’s high-performance model range under the FPV (Ford Performance Vehicles) brand and has developed and assembled Australian new-vehicle ranges for Nissan, Toyota, Mazda and others.

In May Premcar was given the green light by Nissan Australia to develop and produce the newest model to join its modified Nissan Warrior programme – the Patrol Warrior.
