Pure Hydrogen secures 15-year permit for Windorah gas project

Pure Hydrogen Corporation announced on Tuesday it had received a 15-year Potential Commercial Area permit from the Queensland government for its Windorah Gas Project in the Cooper Basin.

The wholly-owned subsidiary Real Energy Queensland received the permit following a 22-month regulatory approval process with the Queensland government’s Department of Natural Resources and Mines, Manufacturing and Regional and Rural Development.

The company also received an extension of ATP 927 to 30 September 2027. The PCA covers the same area as ATP927 and extends the permit until June 2040.

The Windorah Gas Project comprises a 480 square kilometre block located in western Queensland in the Cooper Basin. Previous exploration has defined a contingent 2C gas resource of 330 BCF.

Managing Director Scott Brown said the approval provided long-term tenure for the project and supported the commencement of near-term work programs.

“These approvals follow a thorough regulatory engagement process and offer strong validation of the project’s potential,” Brown said.

The approval represents a key milestone for the planned spinout of Pure Hydrogen’s Australian gas assets into a separate listed entity called Eastern Gas, which was announced in January.

The company has signed a tie-in and processing agreement with Santos that contemplated gas being transported and processed at Moomba. Commercial discussions with Santos will be re-initiated to refresh the agreement for transportation and processing of gas from the Windorah project.

Pipeline licence PPL 2041 was granted in 2019 for gas transportation between Tamarama well area and Mt Howitt, allowing connection of Queenscliff and Tamarama wells to gas pipeline infrastructure connecting to Moomba.

The project targets Cooper Basin Permian saturated tight sands comprising the Patchawarra, Toolachee and Arrabury sandstones. Resources have been independently certified by Aeon Petroleum Consultants and DeGolyer & MacNaughton.
