Pure Hydrogen secures funding for Moreton Bay plant

Pure Hydrogen has signed a funding agreement with Singapore hydrogen developer CAC-H2 to partially fund its planned Emerald biomass-to-hydrogen plant at Moreton Bay, Queensland.

The joint venture waste-to-hydrogen facilities will take feedstock such as wood waste, and convert it into Emerald Hydrogen using state-of-the-art gasification systems, and are the first of a number planned by Pure Hydrogen around the country.

Located in Moreton Bay near Brisbane, the plant is expected to be operational in early 2024, producing 1,000-2,500 kilograms per day, with plans to increase the capacity to 30,000 kilograms per day.

It will supply the fuel for hydrogen fuel cell vehicles such as those manufactured by Australian manufacturer H2X Global – Pure Hydrogen is a shareholder in H2X Global.

Under the terms of the agreement, Pure Hydrogen will initially fund 25 percent of the construction of the biomass waste to hydrogen plant at a cost of around $3.2 million, with an option to fund a further 25 percent of the project.

Pure Hydrogen managing director Scott Brown said the funding, to be provided in tranches over the next 12 months, marked an important step forward for the company’s Moreton Bay Hydrogen Hub.

Brown said: “With this funding, pure Hydrogen is seeding what is likely to be the first of many plants located on the east coast of Australia.

“We are creating a template that can be easily replicated across multiple sites and this will become evident as the year unfolds.”

CAC-H2 is constructing waste to energy facilities with similar operations in other markets.
