Qinetiq awarded $100 million contract with defence

Defence has signed a ten-year, $100 million contract with engineering company Qinetiq Australia.

In a statement released on Wednesday, defence minister Linda Reynolds said that this would see 85 of the company’s staff continue their work at Defence Science and Technology Group sites. Its work includes on flight testing systems at the Woomera Test Range.

“[Qinetiq] will deliver comprehensive mechanical and electronic design and manufacturing support together with applied imaging services, enabling a wide range of DST’s research, test and trial activities,” said Reynolds.

“DST plays a vital role in enabling and coordinating support to Defence from a national science and technology enterprise, with QinetiQ becoming an important component of DST’s support ecosystem.”

Qinetiq was established in the UK in 2001 and entered the Australian market in 2008 via the acquisitions of three local aerospace and defence companies. It recently earned a contract to build a drone flight test range at the Cloncurry Aerodrome in Queensland.
