The new state government has said it will increase funding to the Made in Queensland grant program by $5 million per year.

According to its website, MiQ has been running since 2017 and currently provides matched funding worth $50,000 to $2.5 million per grant.

“Make it in Queensland” was allocated $25 million in the June budget, with $20 million of this for MiQ and $5 million for the Manufacturing Hubs Grant Program.

The LNP government of David Crisafulli was elected last month.

“The Crisafulli Government will deliver an extra $5 million each year to the Made in Queensland manufacturing grants to boost capability, productivity, and innovation, and to generate high-skilled jobs for the future,” said state manufacturing minister Dale Last in a statement in Rockhampton on Tuesday.

“Our plan includes expanding the footprint of manufacturing hubs in regional Queensland by establishing new facilities and supporting existing ones to better meet the needs of local industry and create more jobs.”

Last visited Rockhampton businesses Manuplex and PHL Metal Fabrication, as well as touring the Rockhampton Manufacturing Hub, coinciding with the announcement.

“Rockhampton and other regional centres across Queensland have the skills, drive, and vision to lead the state’s economic future, and our government is here to back that potential every step of the way” he added.
