RPC to manufacture rail toilet modules

Composites manufacturer RPC Technologies is to fabricate Sanitary Toilet Modules for inclusion in new Metronet trains being produced for the Western Australian regional rail network.

The company has been awarded the design, manufacture and supply contract for the modules including associated tank systems for Alstom’s Perth Metronet DMU trains being built for the Public Transport Authority of Western Australia.

The modules are for six new diesel railcars which will replace the existing Australind service between Perth and Bunbury.

Under a $1.3 billion) contract Alstom is returning train manufacturing to Perth, building and maintaining 6-car electric (EMU) and 3-car diesel (DMU) trains.

Local content in the project is more than 50 per cent.

The RPC modules include press-button doors, electronic toilets, wash basins, mirrors, baby change tables, flooring, piping, handrails and electrical wiring.

RPC will supply the kits and manage final assembly in the railcars in Perth.

RPC will design the toilet modules in 3D to ensure correct interface into the overall interior train design.

Delivery is expected in September 2022.
