Adelaide steel fabrication specialist Samaras Structural Engineers installed an automated steel fabrication system believed to be the largest in the country.
The company has already fabricated the largest of projects, including Adelaide Oval east and west grandstands, Chadstone shopping centre extension, Adelaide Convention Centre stage one and two, One Central Park Sydney and Melbourne Airport Terminal Four.
A federal government defence Sovereign Industry Capability priority grant supported the installation of a Zeman SBA-Conti+1500 fabrication system (main picture) to increase manufacturing capabilities.
Designed specifically for heavy engineering and equipped with advanced robotic manufacturing capabilities, the system can handle up to 1500mm welded beams, a first in the Southern hemisphere.
This technology increases the Samaras fabrication capacity by an estimated 800hrs per week.
The system has been installed at the company’s 75,000sqm plant at Gillman (pictured below), one of the largest in the country.
Founded by the Samaras family in 1974, Samaras Group employs 220 at Gillman and its Collingwood office in Melbourne.
