Schneider Electric completes acquisition of Australian IoT company

French multinational Schneider Electric has announced the completed acquisition of Aurtra, a University of Queensland spinout specialising in power asset management solutions.

The acquisition was announced last year, with Aurtra’s HealthSense – a multi-function sensor solution – now part of Schneider Electric’s services offer portfolio.

Aurtra was founded in 2016, following a decade of industry/university research. The company provides sensors and software to visualise and optimise asset usage, maintenance and replacement of transformers, and its first customers were power distribution utilities.

“With this technology, we help customers avoid catastrophic and expensive transformer failures, optimise their operating expenses on individual or transformer fleets, and ultimately extend transformer life”, said Pedro Robredo, Schneider Electric’s VP of Digital Transformer Services on Monday.

“The team is excited to join the Schneider Electric family and drive digital transformation by integrating world-leading process and energy technologies to realise full efficiency and sustainability opportunities.” added Terry Woodcroft, Aurtra’s co-founder and CEO, and now Schneider’s Digital Transformer Services Offer Management, Support, and Marketing Lead.
