SciDev extends its water chemistry to mineral processing

Wastewater treatment technology company SciDev has extended the reach of its water treatment chemistries to mineral processing, with a trial underway at BHP’s Olympic Dam copper and uranium mine in South Australia.

SciDev has received a trial order worth $1 million to trial for six months its MaxiFlox chemistry which is normally used to treat industrial waste water.

The system will be used at Australia’s largest copper mine and processing facility in the Hydromet and Concentrator sections of the processing plant.

SciDev CEO Lewis Utting said: “The opportunity to transfer our chemistry ad know how from the waste processing side directly to the production side of a mining operation reflects the potential for the company’s bespoke chemistries.”

MaxiFlox is normally used to treat waste from industrial sites such as food processing, paint manufacture and paper making.
