Shipbuilder Luerssen expands its footprint

Naval shipbuilder Luerssen Australia has expanded its footprint to Canberra, establishing a base in the nation’s capital.

Over the last five years, Luerssen has continued to expand its teams in Perth, Melbourne and Adelaide as it delivers twelve Arafura Class Offshore Patrol Vessels (OPV) for the Royal Australian Navy.

Two of the OPVs are under construction at Osborne in Adelaide, with the remainder being built at Henderson in Perth.

According to the company, establishing an office in Canberra allows the Luerssen team to work even more
closely with Defence and the federal government, and continue to strengthen collaborative relationships.

Luerssen Australia Chief Executive Officer Jens Nielsen said” “As our employee numbers continued to grow, it was clear we needed to expand our footprint to provide greater support for our team and our customer.

“We are extremely proud to be continually growing our workforce, and creating job opportunities for Australians.”

The company said it was demonstrating its commitment to being here for the long term.

“Luerssen Australia is passionate about helping create a sovereign shipbuilding capability in
Australia.”
