Swisse, Blackmores and others able to use Australian Made logo after taskforce labelling review

Australian complementary medicines will be allowed to use the Australian Made logo following a Complementary Medicine Taskforce review to changes in consumer and labelling law.

The Australian quotes industry minister Karen Andrews as saying, “Complementary medicines manufactured in Australia in production facilities regulated by the Therapeutic Goods Administration would now be able to make the claim Australian made and use the Australian Made Logo.
“The Australian Made logo can be of great benefit to local industry as a universal, high brand recognition, point of difference to other products.”
The labelling laws were slammed as “ludicrous” by Blackmores. Blackmores is part of a complementary medicine segment that exported $936 million of products last year, mostly to China.
The review was announced by Andrews in December last year  to “examine the impact of changes to Country of Origin Labelling laws on manufacturers of vitamins, minerals and supplements and their origin claims”.
