Kinaltek, a Western Sydney-based company developing a new technology for production of metallic materials, has announced successful completion of a $15 million Series A round.

In a short statement on Monday that shared nothing about who its investors are, Kinaltek said that the news represented a “significant milestone” and would be used “to propel us forward in achieving our goals.”

According to the statement, the investment would be “primarily be used to scale up our operations in particular for production of silicon nanoparticles and silicon-carbide composites, expand our team, and further develop our innovative products and services.

Kinaltek was founded in 2017 by Dr Jawad Haidar, a former Senior Principal Research Scientist at CSIRO who worked on novel technologies to make titanium alloys.

Last year it announced licencing of its technology to UPL Specialty Chemicals in India for production of nickel-based catalysts.

Kinaltek’s website describes its process as a low-temperature, low-cost, one-step approach to making metallic powders and pigments, and able “to synthesise any combination based on 27 different metals.”

It says the planned route to commercialisation involves partnering, licensing and manufacturing.

The company received a $500,000 grant in 2021 from the Advanced Manufacturing Growth Centre for a project developing the Kinaltek process, in collaboration with University of Sydney, Scimita Ventures and Amaero International.

Kinaltek takes its name from the words kinetic alloy and powder technologies.
