Battery materials producer Talga Group has announced that environmental permits allowing the company to construct a battery anode plant at Lulea in Sweden are now in force.

No appeals were submitted against the permit being issued, and with a Certificate of Finalitity now issued by the Swedish Land and Environment Court, this completes the statutory process for the permit.

Talga’s plans a battery anode plant in Lulea close to its’ high grade graphite resources at Vittangi.

Powered by green hydro power, the refinery is strategically located close to the mine, ports and railways.

Each day the plant will receive two truckloads of graphite concentrate from Vittangi, which will then pass through refining stages and Talga’s proprietary coating and electrothermic heating process to create the final Talnode products.

The company will produce 19,500 tonnes a year of Talnode anodes for electric vehicles, consumer products and energy storage systems.

Talga Founder Managing Director Mark Thompson (pictured) said: “The court’s decision to permit Europe’s first commercial natural graphite anode plant is an exciting milestone for both Talga and the green transition.

“We are thrilled to move to the next stage of project development and to commence groundworks for the construction of the anode plant at Lulea.

“I am extremely proud of the Talga team in this announcement.”
