Over 10,000 South Australian companies have signed up to use the State Brand, according to the SA government, with chicken salt pioneer Mitani one of the most recent.
According to a statement on Monday, “thousands more businesses” have joined Brand South Australia after it was relaunched by the government in late-2022.
One of these was chicken salt manufacturer Mitani Group, a third-generation family business employing more than 70 staff across two locations in SA.
Lewis Mitani, the company’s Chief Sales Officer, said, “We are proud to be the 10,000th member to join Brand SA (or there abouts), and this milestone further solidifies our commitment to promoting the excellence of South Australian businesses.
“As a family-owned business, we look forward to continuing to contribute to the success of our state and its reputation for producing world-class products.”
According to its website, Mitani is a supplier to “some of Australia’s leading food manufacturing companies” including in poultry, meat and seafood processing; quick service restaurants; vegetables; bakeries; and ready-to-eat meals.
The release notes that chicken salt seasoning is an SA invention by Peter Brinkworth. According to a 2022 article by the ABC, it has been “held secret for more than 40 years.” Mitani bought the invention – the subject of the documentary Salt of the Earth – in 1979.
Applying to use the State Brand is free.
“As more top-quality South Australian business[es] get on board, the prestige of our state’s products and services will only grow,” added SA MP Joe Szakacs.
