Four companies have been awarded a total of $18 million in grants for expansion projects through the federal government’s Northern Australia Development Program.
Three manufacturers earned grants through the program, which provides up to $10 million in matched funding to medium and large companies “to establish a new industry or significantly grow the value of an existing industry and contribute to regional transformational change.”
Metal fabrication businesses Wulguru Steel and Bridgeman Agencies were awarded $11 million and $935,000 respectively.
Environmental products-focussed company Gough Industries was awarded $4.91 million.
Jean Pierre Patisserie was awarded $1.74 million.
Federal MP Phil Thompson – whose seat of Herbert includes Gough Industries, Jean Pierre Patisserie, and Bridgeman Agencies – said the funding would greatly benefit Townsville.
“We want to see more things being manufactured and maintained here in Townsville and that’s exactly what businesses like Gough Industries and Wulguru Group are going to be doing, which is why I’ve been so supportive of their applications,” said Thompson.
