Metal 3D printer manufacturer Titomic and standards body SAE International have announced the successful development and acceptance of SAE International’s Cold Spray Additive Manufacturing Specification, AMS 7057 (Specification).
This milestone project, which began in February 2023 with Titomic’s sponsorship and technical expertise, represents a transformative moment in the commercialisation of cold spray technology and its standardisation as a globally recognised manufacturing and repair process.
The specification are based on Titomic Kinetic Fusion, Titomic’s proprietary cold spray technology, including rigorous testing of materials produced.
The resulting Specification reflects the quality, performance, and reliability of components manufactured using these technologies, ensuring industries have a trusted framework for adopting cold spray for manufacture.
The President of Titomic USA Jim Simpson said “SAE AMS7057 compliance validates Titomic’s cold spray technology and strategically positions the company to capitalise on a range of U.S. Government opportunities and initiatives aimed at fostering domestic innovation and manufacturing.
“(These include) Department of Defense contracts for military asset repairs, NASA programs for lightweight aerospace components, and Office of Strategic Capital efforts to strengthen domestic supply chains through advanced manufacturing technologies.
“This unique positioning enables Titomic to provide a proven, scalable solution that addresses critical national security and technological priorities, offering unmatched reliability and innovation to meet the demands of these programmes.”
With the Specification now in effect, highly regulated industries such as aerospace, defence, and others are more more likely to adopt Titomic Kinetic Fusion.
Certification processes, which are critical in these sectors, will be significantly streamlined as the standard provides an established benchmark.
Airbus announced in October 2023 that Titomic was its chosen supplier for cold spray. Today, Titomic is working with multiple aircraft manufacturers to implement cold spray technology in their operations, according to the company.
