Titomic installs automated glass mould coating system

Additive manufacturing technology company Titomic has successfully installed a first of type glass mould coating system to Austrian manufacturer Vetropack.

The system, which was developed in collaboration with glass research organisation, the International Partners in Glass Research (IPGR), scans the moulds and, using AI software, produces a robotic programme to automatically coat and repair moulds.

The system was delivered to the company a year ago and has just passed its site acceptance test.

According to Titomic: “This breakthrough system for automated cold spray, which will significantly enhance the performance of moulds for the glass industry thereby improving productivity and safety, was successfully installed at Vetropack.

“The system was fully tested and approved for introduction into daily operation by TUV Austria.”

The company said it expects inspections for comparative systems would be completed more quickly in future, allowing for accelerated sales and installations into the European and American markets.

Ongoing revenue for consumables and metal powders of approximately $1 million over three years is expected.

Managing Director Herbert Koeck the installation established Titomic as a world leader in cold spray additive manufacturing solutions.

Koeck said: “Not only have we clearly demonstrated the viability of cold spray as a genuine industrialised process, we have also together with our partners, made a significant step forward in the development of automated systems, improving conditions for operators as well as adding to the bottom line of our customers.”
