Packaging and recycling company Visy says it will have new solar panel arrays up and running at seven of its 120-plus Australian sites next month, representing a combined 4,500 kilowatts of generation capacity.

In a statement on Tuesday, the company said it partnered with Energy Aware on six sites in Victoria and 1K5° Commercial in Queensland.

It estimates solar energy will reduce its reliance on the grid by 7 per cent across the Victorian sites (combined solar energy capacity of 2,400 kilowatts), and by 23 per cent at the Yatala, Queensland site (where it is installing 2,100 kilowatts’ worth of panels.)

The Yatala array is expected to be complete in December.

General Manager of Energy, Ryan Santowski, said many of its products have up to 100 per cent recycled content, though the company is “always looking for ways” to further reduce our environmental impact.

“Installing solar panels on our sites is one of the many ways we continue to invest in green power and improve the sustainability of the food and beverage packaging we make,” said Santowski.
