Volgren Queensland celebrates 2000th locally built bus

Bus manufacturer Volgren reached a historic milestone with the delivery of its 2000th locally built bus from its Eagle Farm facility in Brisbane, the company announced this week.

Since opening in 2009, the Queensland facility has been central to bus manufacturing in the state, delivering over 1000 buses to Brisbane City Council and achieving a new production record in 2024 with more than 180 buses completed.

The milestone vehicle was delivered to Kangaroo Bus Lines, with representatives from Volvo, the Department of Transport and Main Roads, and the Queensland Bus Industry Council attending a celebration at Volgren’s Eagle Farm facility.

“Delivering our 2,000th Queensland-built bus is more than just a number, it represents 45 years of hard work, dedication, and strong partnerships with operators like Kangaroo Bus Lines,” said Thiago Deiro, CEO of Volgren.

At the ceremony, Volgren’s management team presented a special plaque and key to Kangaroo Bus Lines, followed by the cutting of a bus-shaped cake that replicated the 2000th vehicle. Darren Webster, CEO of Kangaroo Bus Lines, participated in the celebrations.

Yuri Tessari, Chief Commercial Officer at Volgren, highlighted the importance of industry partnerships: “Strong, long-lasting partnerships with industry leaders like Volvo and Kangaroo Bus Lines enable Volgren to continue celebrating milestones like this.”

Throughout its 45-year history, Volgren has manufactured more than 10,000 buses across Australia. The company emphasised its commitment to supporting local jobs and contributing to Queensland’s economy through continued manufacturing operations at the Eagle Farm site.
