SMC Corporation Australia New Zealand has announced that its Managing Director, Wayne Driver, will be taking an early retirement due to unspecified health and personal reasons, effective April 1.

This decision marks the end of his 33-year tenure at SMC, a Japanese-headquartered specialist in pneumatic and electric automation equipment.

“This decision has not been taken lightly,” said Driver in a statement.

“I have spent many years devoted to SMC. During this time, I have had the opportunity to work in Japan, New Zealand, and Australia. SMC has enabled me to visit numerous SMC subsidiaries to see their local operations and has greatly enriched my professional development.”

Simon McDonald, SMC Australia New Zealand’s current CFO/Finance and IT Director, and Board Director will take up the role of Acting Managing Director.

“I look forward to nurturing relationships with key stakeholders, bolstering the workplace culture and ensuring continuous improvement within our company. I am committed to my new role and look forward to achieving ambitious growth goals together with our team. On behalf of our people, I wish Wayne and his family all the best for the future” said McDonald.
