Sixteen South Australian wine producers will be supported to grow their businesses by entering into the US market through Wine Australia’s US Market Entry Program.
Supported by the state Department for Trade and Investment, the program gives smaller wineries a chance to replace lost exports to China with another growing market for Australian wine.
China’s punitive tariffs on Australian wine saw overall export volumes drop five per cent and their value drop by 10 per cent in FY21 to $2.56 billion.
However major wine groups such as Penfolds’ maker Treasury Wine Estates, have been largely able to redirect wine supplies to other markets and otherwise change their business models.
The just expanded 12-month Wine Australia program provides services designed to about the intricacies of the US market, such as compliance, marketing, pricing and logistics.
It also provides in depth brand strategy support to wineries ready to move commercially in the US market.
The 16 South Australian wine producers participating in the US Market Entry Program are Atlas Wines, Burge Family Wines, CW Wines, Golding Wines, Greenock Creek, Handcrafted and Redhead Studios, Hither & Yon, Hollick Estate, Islander Estate, Knappstein Wines, Longview Wines, St Mary’s Wines, Tomich Wine, Turkey Flat, Watkins Family Wines and Welland Wines.
