$16.5 million grant round launched for EV charger sites

Manufacturing News

The first round of the Future Fuels Fund has been launched, with the federal government saying the $16.5 million grant round would support electric vehicle uptake and lessen concerns “about their capacity to travel longer distances in regional Australia.”

Grants are administered by the Australian Renewable Energy Agency and the $16.5 million round will support the availability of chargers in capital cities and key regional centres.

Each regional location was expected to receive four fast charging stations at the least, and “New South Wales Central Coast, Wollongong, Geelong, the Sunshine Coast and the Gold Coast” were cited as targeted regional sites.

“The program will make it easier for consumers in regional Australia, as well as fleet owners, taxi operators and businesses, to access the infrastructure they need to embrace new technologies,” said federal energy minister Angus Taylor in a statement.
