NSW planning minister Paul Scully has announced that the First Building at Bradfield City Centre, housing Stage 1 of the Advanced Manufacturing Readiness Facility (AMRF), has been officially opened.

AMRF announced completed construction of the building in December. The opening is “another example of the genuine momentum building around Australia’s first new city in over 100 years” said Scully on Wednesday.

“This is just the beginning of Bradfield’s future growth as it evolves into a world class city with 10,000 homes, 20,000 high quality jobs, and critical green open spaces for residents and visitors to enjoy.”

The AMRF is in the Western Sydney Aerotropolis, near the upcoming Western Sydney International (Nancy-Bird Walton) Airport, which is scheduled to open by the end of next year.

Scully also announced the state government’s Aerotropolis Sector Plan, setting out delivery of essential government infrastructure, and the signing of a partnership agreement between the AMRF and 11 NSW and ACT universities.

The partnership agreement will pair research at the universities with the AMRF’s infrastructure and experts, with the partners to “work together to translate research into production and develop the next generation of advanced manufacturing experts through a paid internship program”.

An AMRF Second Building has a stared “focus on micro-electronics and semi-conductor packaging” and is expected to open by the end of 2026.
