Australian drones to deliver mail in the Middle East

Manufacturing News

Done cargo planes operated by Dronomoics and manufactured in Sydney by composites manufacturer Quickstep are set to fly parcels and mail around the Middle East following the signing of an agreement with Emirates Post Group (EPG).

The agreement will see Dronamics provide cargo drone services to enable same-day middle-mile and long-range deliveries for Emirates Post, the national postal service for the UAE.

Dronamics, through its postal and express business managed by Emirates Post, will conduct Proof-of-Concept (POC) flights in the UAE with at least one drone aircraft by 2024.

In July @AuManufacturing reported the drone cargo planes being built by Quickstep had officially been assigned both IATA and ICAO designator codes, opening the way for them to operate as a scheduled airline worldwide.

The LOI was signed during the official launch of the Smart and Autonomous Vehicles Industry (SAVI) Cluster in Abu Dhabi, which aims to become a leading smart and autonomous vehicle hub across air, land, and sea.

Under the terms of this LOI, EPG will explore and trial Dronamics’ cargo drone service to enable same-day middle-mile and long-range deliveries.

Both organisations will collaborate towards developing a comprehensive cargo drone delivery network in the UAE and GCC.

EPG intends to be a launch partner of the future Dronamics UAE joint venture to support the expansion of their cargo drone operations in the region.

CEO and Co-Founder of Dronamics Svilen Rangelov said: “Partnering with Emirates Post Group provides us with the exciting opportunity to work on our expansion to the Middle East and the United Arab Emirates in particular.

“Through this agreement we will look to implement our unique middle-mile cargo drone technology on the UAE market in service of EPG, its customers and its universal service mandate – an important step to achieving our vision of enabling same-day delivery for everyone everywhere.”
