Ballarat mineral processing equipment firm to make ventilator

Leading mineral processing equipment manufacturer Gekko Systems has been funded by the Victorian government to further refine a new medical ventilator developed by the firm.

The government, which is also supporting a ventilator being developed by Grey Innovation, has advanced funds to prepare the Gekko ventilator design for manufacturing readiness.

Gekko, better known for its concentrating, leaching and gravity separation rigs, has established a rapid response project team who are working over the Easter break.

They are focusing on final product testing, supply strategies and TGA approvals required to safely bring this product to market.

The Gekko ventilator, or “GeVentor” is a collaborative regional project being facilitated by Michael Poulton, CEO of the Committee for Ballarat.

Local clinician, anaesthetist Doug Paxton, has been integral in the design of the prototype.

Victoria’s Jobs, Innovation and Trade minister Martin Pakula said : “We’re moving to fast-track the local production of ventilators.

“A local manufacturer of these life-saving machines will help us respond to coronavirus cases and help save lives.”
