Bluescope, FormFlow to commercialise world-first metal bending invention

Bluescope Steel and Geelong startup FormFlow have signed a deal to commercialise a “world first, patented technology and process” that bends corrugated steel profiles at sharp angles without damaging their structure or coating.

Bluescope’s Lysaght division will apply FormFlow’s bending technology to the Custom Orb product, offering a “clean, distinctive new look” and benefits around insulation. The deal will commercialise FormFlow’s “C90” product, and see the two organisations collaborate on R&D and further products.

“FormFlow is focussed on developing solutions that solve social issues, primarily Australia’s housing affordability crisis and bushfire recovery,” said FormFlow co-founder Dr Matt Dingle.

“Given Lysaght’s product range and technical expertise in the design and application of steel building products, they are a natural partner for FormFlow’s technology.”

Lysaght will begin offering the new version of Custom Orb — produced at Lysaght’s Geelong facility — through its Victorian sales network this month, with “a national launch in the short-to-medium term.”

FormFlow is based at the ManuFutures innovation hub at Deakin University’s Waurn Ponds campus, and has “strong partnerships with world-leading metal forming experts” at the university.
