Cannabis company Medipharm gains GMP certification, boosts export opportunities

ASX-listed cannabis products company Medipharm Labs Australia has earned Good Manufacturing Practice certification and licence from the Therapeutic Goods Administration.

The local subsidiary of Canada’ Medipharm Labs Corp now had a way to begin fulfilling a pipeline of orders for finished products, and to be a link in the company’s GMP-compliant international supply chain, said Asia Pacific CEO Warren Everitt. Medipharm officially opened a new cannabis extraction facility in Wonthaggi, Victoria last December.

“This Licence gives us an invaluable edge in the domestic Australian market by signalling to customers that our company is the one to align with for the highest quality production,” Everitt said in a statement.

“From a global market perspective, the TGA has mutual recognition agreements with various other  [Pharmaceutical Inspection Co-operation Scheme] members, which means that products we make in Australia will satisfy… requirements in those other jurisdictions where we intend to seek import permits for our products.”

The TGA is one of 53 regulatory authority members in PIC/S, which harmonises GMP standards across countries.
