Ariarne Titmus on Australian Made: “when we back each other, we all win”

Manufacturing News

Ahead of the fifth annual Australian Made Week, Olympics freestyle swimming champion Ariarne Titmus has called on Australians “to rally behind Team Aussie by choosing Australian Made”.

Titmus is this year’s Australian Made Week Ambassador, with the celebration to run next week (May 19 – 25.)

The gold medalist in the women’s 400-metre freestyle at the last two Olympics said in a statement on Tuesday that, “I’ve been incredibly fortunate to have the backing of Australians throughout my swimming career, and it’s made all the difference.

“Now, I’m encouraging everyone to rally behind Team Aussie by choosing Australian Made. Because when we back each other, we all win.”

The Olympic champion – who is also the world record-holder in the 200-metre and 400-metre freestyle – added: “Whether it’s skincare or safety equipment, curtains or campervans – we can all play our part in giving Australian businesses a true home-ground advantage,”

Chief Executive of the Australian Made Campaign Ben Lazzaro said that the week represented an opportunity to become more conscious about the value of purchases, and that favouring locally-made products over imports benefited all Australians.

“If every household spent just $10 more a week on Australian Made products, we’d inject an extra $5.6 billion into our economy and generate around 10,000 new jobs,” said Lazzaro.

Editor’s note: @AuManufacturing will be running our fifth Celebrating Australian Made editorial series next week, sponsored by the Australian Made Campaign.
