DA approved for new aluminium extrusion factory

Orange City Council approved a development application on Tuesday night for an aluminium factory at the former Electrolux site.

A-Tech Extrusion Systems plans an extrusion and coating factory at the site, running 24/7 and employing 60 staff, with an output of 9,000 tonnes of products per year.

The council described plans for the site as manufacturing for:

  • the construction industry including windows, doors, skylights, canopies, louvers etc.
  • transportation – automotive structural and chassis components, crash management systems electrical and energy – solar energy mounting systems, LED lighting components
  • medical and consumer durables – recreation products, home and garden tools, home appliances, medical diagnostic equipment.

The site was purchased last year by a company associated with A-Tech, which has sites at Condell Park and Milperra, southwest of Sydney’s CBD. The DA was made in September.

At the time A-Tech’s managing director described plans as competing against Chinese and Vietnamese products, which dominate the Australian market for aluminium products.

The Electrolux factory at Orange stopped production in 2016, after running for more than 70 years.
