Delorean Corporation has signed off a $6 million grant with the Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA) to help accelerate development of its SA1 bioenergy facility.
The funding will be used to support the procurement, installation, and commissioning of critical infrastructure upgrades to improve the site’s ability to make biogas into mains-grade biomethane at the Edinburgh Parks, South Australia facility.
These upgrades will also enable the production of biogenic food-grade liquid carbon dioxide.
Delorean’s biogas will be produced from organic waste that is diverted from landfills
The grant is conditional upon Delorean finalising offtake agreements with industrial facilities. Delorean said active negotiations. Are already under way with major industrial gas users.
Delorean managing director Joe Oliver called the ARENA grant a ‘game-changer’.
“It not only enables us to achieve a major milestone with the SA1 project but also creates long-term, sustainable revenue streams that will underwrite the viability of the project,” Oliver said.
ARENA CEO Darren Miller added that biomethane could play an important role in helping industry to decarbonise.
“By using food and organic waste and transforming it into renewable gas, this project shows an innovative approach to reducing emissions in hard to abate sectors while supporting a circular economy,” Miller said.
