Engineering company Downer, which is leading delivery of the Queensland Train Manufacturing Program (QTMP), has made “major construction milestones” with its Torbanlea factory build.
In a statement on Monday, Downer said wall cladding was nearing completion and installation of specialist equipment is underway, as is a large-scale recruitment campaign ahead of the manufacture of 65 six-car passenger trains
The company is seeking to hire for roughly 200 frontline and 100 professional roles. (Available positions can be seen here.)
QTMP People and Culture Director, David Fowler, said: “We’re looking to fill a wide range of positions at the Torbanlea facility, with recruitment phased from 2026.”
Roles include in “electrical trades, fabricators, mechanical trades, painters and semi-skilled assembly workers,” the company said, as well as “professional positions in administration and support, planning and scheduling, quality and testing, production and operations management, and technical and specialist fields.”
Interviews are slated to begin this October ahead of hiring early in the new year, “coinciding with the beginning of train manufacturing.”
The QTMP contract was awarded in June 2023.
