EVOS expands to Japan with FKK manufacturing deal

Brisbane-based EV charging startup EVOS signed a licensing agreement with Japanese manufacturer FKK to produce and sell its electric vehicle charging solutions in Japan, the company announced on Wednesday.

The agreement allows EVOS to enter the Japanese market while FKK gains access to EVOS’ energy management cloud platform and Grid Integration Device systems. FKK, a company specialising in sparkplugs and LED components since 1954, will now enter the EV charging space with EVOS’ established technology.

“FKK has proven in over 70 years of operation that they manufacture with precision and develop high quality, advanced products,” said EVOS CEO and co-founder Marcelo Salgado.

The first chargers manufactured under this agreement are expected to roll out near the end of Q2 this year. The partnership will also enable expansion into Southeast Asian markets and India through FKK’s established sales channels.

EVOS CTO Chris Crossman noted that Japan’s unique parking situation presents specific opportunities for EV charging infrastructure, as residents without garages must lease public parking spaces.

“The EVOS suite of chargers are designed to handle any and all weather conditions while maintaining security and helping owners manage their energy costs,” Crossman said.

EVOS will continue manufacturing chargers in Brisbane for the Australia/New Zealand market while engineering new solutions for both local and global markets. The company has also become the preferred EV charger supplier for Movem, the largest energy retailer in the Philippines.

The Australian company offers the SB7 7.4kW charger for home use, the Fleet22 22kW AC charger for businesses, and the EVOS Energy Platform that manages EV charging in response to building demand and energy costs.

“We don’t just make chargers, but solve the issue of energy,” said Chief Experience Officer Seshan Weeratunga.
