Incoming chair of Wine Australia announced

Dr Michele Allan has been named chair of Wine Australia, effective July 4.

Allan is a food and agribusiness specialist and will replace Catherine Oates, the acting chair since April 4, and serve a three-year term at the federal statutory authority.

Wine Australia supports R&D, market development, regulatory services and marketing activities for the industry, which is the world’s sixth-biggest wine producer and fifth-biggest exporter.

“Dr Allan will be instrumental in overseeing a growing demand for Australian wine overseas and promoting Australian wine internationally as some of the safest, most sustainable and highest quality wine in the world,” said federal agriculture minister David Littleproud in a statement.

Allan has previously been chair of Meat & Livestock Australia and the Wheat Industry Advisory Taskforce.
