Lion turns the beer taps off after cyber attack

The Lion brewery and dairy business, the latest large manufacturer to be hit by a cyber attack, is still rebooting production and experiencing empty supply chains a week after suffering a cyber attack.

The maker of XXX and Little Creatures beer said in an update: “There is still some way to go before we can resume our normal manufacturing operations and customer service.”

The company said the latest attack, which follows production disruptions at BlueScope’s steel works, was a ransomware attack.

The company immediately shut down key systems, leading to beer shortages and interruptions to milk supplies to consumers.

“Our IT teams and expert cyber advisors have continued working throughout the weekend to investigate this incident, working to bring systems back online safely.

“Across our Australian and New Zealand adult beverages businesses, we continue to have limited visibility of our products in our systems.

“We’re working to bring our breweries back online as soon as possible, hoping to get a number of our breweries back up and running very soon.”

Lion said there was no evidence that any of the information contained in our system including financial or personal information was affected in the attack.
