Livium has signed a new expanded recycling agreement with BYD Australia, broadening its battery recycling scope to include commercial vehicle batteries and energy storage systems in addition to electric vehicle batteries, according to an ASX announcement released on Monday.
The three-year agreement, which commenced on May 1, positions Livium's subsidiary Envirostream Australia as BYD's preferred battery recycling supplier in Australia. This new deal supersedes a previous agreement with BYD Auto Industry Company Limited and expands services to better address BYD's growing presence in the Australian market.
“Expanding our recycling scope with the BYD Company group in Australia demonstrates the quality of Envirostream's services,” said Simon Linge, Livium CEO. “In the short time working together our volume expectations have been exceeded, and we are excited to expand our partnership through this New Agreement.”
BYD, which delivered a record 4.27 million new energy vehicles globally in 2024, has rapidly captured 14% of Australia's EV market since entering in 2022. BYD Australia's General Manager Wing You noted that the partnership “will enable greater continuity in BYD's battery recycling efforts, ensuring a greener future for Australians.”
The companies are also exploring opportunities to extend their partnership beyond Australia, with plans to expand lithium-ion battery recycling to New Zealand, the Pacific Islands, and the broader Oceania region.
Livium, formerly known as Lithium Australia, operates Australia's market-leading battery recycler and produces critical battery materials. The agreement aligns with Livium's strategy to secure long-term recycling contracts and diversify its end-of-life battery sources from both electric vehicles and battery energy storage systems.
