Magnis may make fast charge batteries in Townsville

Magnis Energy Technologies may build a new type of extra fast charge lithium ion electric vehicle battery at massive new factories it is planning in Townsville and New York.

The company’s battery partner, Charge CCCV (CV4), has completed test results on the new battery which Magnis describes as a ‘potential game changer for EV manufacturers.’

The batteries achieved more than 85 per cent charging in six minutes.

The company is now developing a 25-50 kWh battery pack for EVs for demonstration to potential EV manufacturers.

In March Magnis reaffirmed its commitment to financing a $2 billion, 18GWh lithium-ion battery cell gigafactory in Townsvill.

The company completed engineering work on a similar plant proposed for New York in May.

CV4 President Shallesh Upreti said: “We look forward to producing further batteries with continued improvements for this fast-growing sector, with the aim to eventually deploy CV4’s proprietary technology at Giga scale in New York and Australia.”
